JHORDAN PRICE, 16

Jhordan Price is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is in 11th grade at Propel Andrew Street Charter School. She is a very dedicated member of Alumni Theater Company (ATC), a nonprofit organization that gives voice to young urban artists. Price, along with the other members of ATC, presents shows that shine a light on the issues in the world. Her passion is performing arts and she has been performing in theatrical productions since she was five years old, everything from acting, singing, writing, and dancing, to rapping. She was selected to be a participant in the Reimagination Project ran by WYEP radio station in Pittsburgh and a single of hers will appear on a joint album being released in early May 2019.

For the past two summers, Price has been invited by ATC to go to New York to be a cast member in the off Broadway show, Rebel Verses, featuring original works. This opportunity gave Price chances to meet people such as Daphne Rubin Vega, the original Mimi from the musical RENT and muMs da Schemer who played Arnold “Poet” Jackson in the television show Oz.

In addition to her theater career, Price considers herself an activist and advocate for social injustices including the equal rights of people of color. She hopes that youth voices will be heard by partnering with adults who can collaborate on forming plans to solve issues going on in the world. Price hopes that youth will soon get the mutual respect needed to have their desire for change realized. Youth are not ignorant to the fact that there are issues in the world and they do spend time thinking about how they can solve the problems that affect them.

It is Our Duty

By Jhordan Price

Assata Shakur said it is our duty to fight for our freedom
we need adults to support the youth practicing our right
adults have the conversation with your kids
teach them what they need to know
in order for them to have that knowledge to fight
our ancestors fought to make change so we can live how we do today
but don’t forget there’s still a ways to go
don’t let yourself be fooled
it is our duty to fight for our freedom
it is our duty to win
we must win
it’s in our blood
in our history
in our spirits
we are natural winners
it’s in our walk the way we talk
it’s in the things our culture has been built on
it is our duty to fight for our freedom
it is our duty to win
we must love and support each other
with our unity mutual support
we are nothing
a house divided cannot stand right?
so why does it seem hard stand together
all of the power is in unity
that’s how divide and conquer believers keep us at the bottom
it is our duty to fight for our freedom
it is our duty to win
we must love and support each other
we have nothing to lose but our chains
break every chain on your mentality
let them fall
don’t allow the generations to come have the chains put on them
we have NOTHING to lose but our chains
we have nothing to lose for our chains
make the change happen
TURN UP DON’T TURN DOWN
turn up don’t turn down we do this for Trayvon
turn up don’t turn down we do this for Michael
turn up don’t turn down we do this for Sandra
turn up don’t turn down we do this for Stephon
turn up don’t turn down we do this for antwon
we do this for all the black and brown people who are constantly let down by the corrupt system and society
it is our duty.
